Disabled visitors

  • Nearly all sections of the Museums are accessible to disabled visitors.
    Wheelchairs are available free of charge and can be booked before the day of the visit (accoglienza.musei@scv.va) or upon request at the "Special Permits" desk in the entrance hall. To collect the wheelchair the visitor must present a valid identity document.
  • Visitors with physical disabilities have priority and can enter without waiting in line. Free admission is granted to disabled visitors on presentation of documents testifying disability (over 74%) and accompanying persons. (Free tickets for disabled visitors and for accompanying persons may not be booked online. The free tickets are issued at the "Special Permits'" desk or "Reception", situated in the entrance hall to the Vatican Museums).
  • Toilets with facilities for persons in wheelchairs are situated throughout the Museums.
  • Unfortunately, persons using wheelchairs are not authorised to tour the Vatican Gardens on account of difficulties for their safe movement caused be the nature of the pathways.
  • For blind and partially sighted visitors, tactile visits and multi-sensory itineraries are available, which may be booked in advance by calling: 06 69884947 - fax 06 69881573. Guide dogs for the blind may enter the Museums provided they are kept on a lead and wear a muzzle.
    In the case of entry with a guide dog, the visitor must communicate their intention to visit one day in advance by email at: accoglienza.musei@scv.va.

Animals admitted

  • Access is permitted only to guide dogs for the blind, provided they are kept on a lead and wear a muzzle, and to domestic animals certified as providing pet therapy. In these two instances, the intended visit must be communicated one day in advance by email at: accoglienza.musei@scv.va.

Information desk

  • The Information desk is located in the entrance hall and can provide directions to the different sections of the Museums, together with special events and general assistance.
    Open Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm and the last Sunday of every month from 9 am to 12.30 am.

Cloakroom

  • The cloakroom is situated on the right hand side of the entrance hall.

Restaurant and Coffee bars

  • A restaurant with a self-service, pizzeria and coffee bar is located one floor down the Atrium of the Four Gates (Atrio dei Quattro Cancelli): go down the stairs near the Picture Gallery (Pinacoteca) or at the top of the escalators turn right and then follow the indications.
  • A coffee bar with a shop is one floor down the restaurant.
  • The coffee bar "Sistina" is on the stairs leading to the entrance of the Sistine Chapel (near the toilets).

First aid

  • An area for First aid is situated on the right hand side of the entrance hall of the Museums.

Toilets

Locations of the toilets:

  • On the far left hand side of the entrance hall, down a flight of stairs. They are accessible to wheelchairs. Baby-changing facilities are available in the women's toilet.
  • Near the cafeteria. They are accessible to wheelchairs. Baby-changing facilities are available in the women's toilet.
  • In the area after the Cortile della Pigna. Baby-changing facilities are available in the women's toilet.
  • Near the Post Office at the exit of the Museums. In the women's toilet baby-changing facilities are available.
  • In the Raphael Rooms. Baby-changing facilities are available in the women's toilet.
  • Further back the entrance of the Sistine Chapel, near the coffee bar "Sistina". Baby-changing facilities are available in the women's toilet.

Vatican Post Office

  • The Vatican Post Office is situated on the first floor (Court of the Corazze), in the direction of the exit.

Philatelic and Numismatic Office

  • The Philatelic and Numismatic Office (offering specialist stamps, coins and medals) is situated on the first floor (Court of the Corazze) next to the Post Office. Various stamp sets, Vatican commemorative and euro coins issued by the Vatican State are available here.
